Elena Mahmoudi earned her DVM degree in 2011. She then completed residency in animal surgery and anesthesiology at University of Tehran, Iran. Her research has focused on pre-clinical cardiovascular diseases. She studied tissue engineered and stem cell-based therapies in myocardial infarction and heart failure. Elena joined the Ellinor lab in 2019, and is currently working on the characterization of animal models of genes implicated in atrial fibrillation. She is using state-of-the-art molecular techniques, imaging, cardiac mapping and electrophysiology in large animal models to improve the understanding of the mechanism underlying the atrial fibrillation.
