Gavin received his PhD from UCSD in Molecular Biology, and finished a post-doctoral fellowship with Bob Kingston at MGH. Before joining the group, he managed a research group at Tufts Medical School/Tufts Medical Center, on projects ranging from biochemical mechanisms of transcriptional regulation in chromatin to epigenomic and organismal mechanisms underlying the vasculoprotective effects of estrogen. He is currently spearheading an effort to develop methods to much more rapidly connect noncoding genetic variants associated with coronary artery disease to target genes and cellular mechanisms.
