Joel Rämö, MD, PhD joined the Ellinor lab in 2022. His research is focused on the genetic basis of aortic and other cardiovascular diseases in large-scale biobanks, supported by a Sigrid Jusélius Fellowship. Joel moved to the US from Finland, where he graduated from the Medical School of the University of Helsinki in 2019. During his PhD, he established a polygenic basis to Familial Combined Hyperlipidemia and evaluated coronary artery disease risk in familial forms of dyslipidemias. In his postdoctoral work he has sought improved understanding of the genetic basis of understudied rare diseases.
